Wedding: Tawa and Laura Sauñe
I had the privilege of shooting my dear friend Tawa’s wedding the other weekend in Lancaster, South Carolina. Tawa and I met in Peru a while back, where he is from, and where he met Laura, his wife. He’s come a far way from that the boy that I met in the Lima airport nearly 5 years ago. Being a witness to his public testament of love for Laura was a moment I will never forget. Awhile back when I was talking to him about Laura, probing to see how serious he was about her, he turned to me and said, “She climbs faster than me”. After I got over the comedy of his statement, words only uttered by someone whose upbringings were in South America rather than Snellville, Ga., I knew those words spelled out his amazement of her and that she must be a quality person to accomplish such a feat. So, buena suerte a los enamorados.
Ps. This was the first wedding that I shot under the new head of Vera Vita Photo. A collaborative between me and two former UGA Grady grad’s, Kelly Wegel, and Richard Hamm, both working photojournalists. We’re still working out the details, but we got out website up and running and we’re open for business. We’ve started booking weddings, and portraits in the Athens, and Atlanta, Georgia area.
